SEO for Gambling and Poker

There are many casino websites that are interested in getting their site ranked for specific keywords related to gambling and poker. Obviously, the higher they can rank for these gambling specific words the more traffic they can bring to their site. Not just basic traffic, but qualified traffic that is interested in their product(s). They want to capture the attention of Google and allow their content to receive first page rankings, but how do they do that?

The most important aspect of gambling SEO is to provide quality content. I know you’ve probably heard it before but everyday quality becomes more and more important. Google’s programs are getting smarter and if you are simply rewriting basic information that is already out there stuffed with keywords that is no longer going to work. Google’s ultimate goal is for their program to interpret an article and match it up with the proper search words without the writer altering or customizing anything in their writing. Google is not quite there yet, so there are still some things you need to do to optimize your gambling SEO for Google.

If you have a poker website and you are attempting to create content for poker SEO there are a few things to consider. First, you want to find some long-tail keywords that do not have a lot of competition to give your-self a chance to rank on the first page. Try to find poker SEO terms that are specific to your site. Instead of optimizing just for the keyword “Poker” use terms like “play poker online” or “best online poker,” terms that have less competition but also pinpoint exactly the type of person you are looking for.

Depending on the strength of your site long-tail keywords may be the only keywords you can get ranked for until you improve the number of backlinks you have, your Alexa ranking, Google PageRank, etc. It’s much better to be ranked on page one of a term that is only searched 1,000 a month than be on page 42 of a keyword that is searched 250,000 a month, especially if that long-tail keyword fits precisely with what you are offering on your website.

To improve your poker SEO use the keyword you’ve chosen in the title of the article or post, in the first sentence, somewhere in the body, and the last sentence of your article. Also, if you have a picture in your article use the keyword for the Alt tag. That’s all you need to use the specific term you are trying to rank for. Do not keep repeating the keyword or keyword phrase over and over, those days are long gone. You are just using the keywords to help Google understand what the article is about. The rest is up to you to create quality content.

Another tactic that is becoming obsolete that I briefly mentioned before is rewriting existing basic information articles. If you have a gambling site and put up an article about blackjack it should not be the basic how to play the game information. If it is you need to have your own twist on it, present it in a way that makes it interesting. There are hundreds of basic blackjack how to articles and if you simple take one and rewrite it you are not going to stand out from the crowd and Google will not show you any love.

Quality, unique content is more important than ever. Sites that had hundreds of basic information articles that they thought were SEO optimized that they paid very little to obtain are now nowhere to be found in Google rankings. Don’t try to outsmart Google especially if you are in this business for the long-haul. You may find a trick or two that works for a few months but when they catch you and they will catch you, the penalties will not be worth the brief benefits you received.

Those of you who are trying to develop sites to attract gambling advertisers must first develop a loyal following. It’s nice to have large amounts of traffic that go to your blog each day, but it’s even better when those people are going to hear exactly what you have to say. You can attract advertisers with large stats of visits, but after a few months they will be focused on how many people are using their product. If only 10% of the people coming to your site are interested in gambling, advertisers will soon realize the site is not attracting the right types of people. In my experience quality over quantity when it comes to traffic and advertising is the most important thing. It’s nice to have a large following, but gambling advertisers want people with sites who can persuade their audience to use the products that they recommend.
