Printer spooler service not running

Let’s face it, things go wrong with printers, and then we need a technician to fix it. But when the printer driver is corrupt, the computer may spur the following error message: ‘’ Spooler subsystem app stopped working’’. It could be gargantuan, too, like:

‘’Faulting application spoolsv.exe, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp

0x4549b734, faulting module localspl.dll, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp

0x4549bcf7, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00070a15, process id

0x5e8, application start time 0x01c753cf82366c15.’’

Whatever the displayed message, it points to the fact that something is wrong with the necessary software driver(s). By the way, software drivers are pieces of software that are responsible for making hardware communicate with computer. For example, the first time you insert an external hard drive to a computer, the driver will automatically install on the computer. That is necessary to make the computer and hardware communicate.

That’s a general picture. Let’s narrow it down to drivers that allow computers and printers to communicate. Whenever there is a hardware error, the following quick fixes may help:

1. Did you just update the printer driver? If so you may want to roll back to the old driver ( control panel -> device manager-> look for your printer-> double click on it-> go to driver-> click on roll back driver)
2.  You could as well update the driver by following step 1 and clicking on update driver instead of roll back driver.

If that doesn’t solve the problem, we have a collection of possible solutions.  Check to see which method works for you.

Method one

Deleting everything in C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and restarting spooler would make the problem go away but it will reappear each time you print large files.

Method two

Since a corrupt registry key usually causes the problem, follow the steps below:

Click on Start button

Click on Run and type in Regedit

Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM

Click on ControlSet001

Click on Control

Click on Print

Click on Environments

Click on Windows NT x86

Click on Drivers

Click on Version -3

Look for the name of the printers, right-click on each of them, one at a time, follow the drop down menu, and click delete.

Start the printer spooler and install the printer drivers again.

Method three

Click on start -> go to Control Panel->Go to programs and features in control panel -> click on turn Windows features on or off-> click + sign of Print services -> Select LPD and LPR, remove Internet Printing Client -> restart the system to ensure there is no error of spooler service.

Method four

Download and install ”HP print diagnostic utility”. You can search for ‘‘HP print diagnostic utility” on Google. Download and install the file on your computer.

You may record a repeat of the incident after installing and running the utility for a couple of times. From my personal experience, while the problem may occur repeatedly for a couple of time, it will end at some point. Just run the utility each time you have a problem.

Method five

Go to http://support.microsoft.com; look for FIX IT. Use the tool to search for your spooler and printer error message, click ”Fix it for me”. That action will automatically download a patch to your computer. Run the patch and try to see if you can reproduce the error message.

To restart your spooler service, simply go to the control panel and click on the administrative tools. Go to services, open the function, and search for the print Spooler service. Right-click and select start.

Method six

Go to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all the contents. Make sure you do not delete the folder.

Try to start the spooler by clicking on the stat button -> Go to Run-> and then type ”netstat spooler”.

Now create a bat program with notepad and save it as ”netstartspooler.bat”. That should fix the problem.

Method seven

Go to printer properties, under advanced and chose print directly to the printer. If that doesn’t resolved the problem, try a different method.

System restore is an incredibly useful tool that is provided with Windows operating systems, but only when it is used properly. It can give you the perfect and easiest way to correct things that have gone wrong, and to return your computer to a previously working condition.

There are many ways in which your system can be afflicted by minor problems. Software installations and viruses are two of the most common, with the removal of software or major changes to the system configurations being another. When this happens, it can be nice to just roll back the changes as though they never happened.

Installing software isn’t always as straight forward as it might seem. From time to time, installing a new piece of software may cause a clash with other software on the computer, or maybe with the operating system or hardware drivers. When this happens the computer may become unstable, may start to hang or crash or become completely unusable. If this happens, restoring to an earlier known safe configuration on the computer can help, by removing any recent changes that you have made to the computer.

System restore settings are accessed through the control panel, under the ‘System’ menu. The ‘System Restore’ tab allows you to decide how much storage will be dedicated to saving system restore points. You can choose to restore to an earlier restore point by going to ‘Start’ ? ‘Accessories’ ? ‘System Tools’ and then choosing the restore point that you want. You can restore to an earlier time in safe mode if your system has become unstable.

Using a system restore point won’t cause the loss of files or data such as photographs or documents. However it will remove any software changes that you have recently made to your computer, and that means that you will lose any programs that you have recently installed. It may be that you find that your computer is simply not capable of running that software and that you have to abandon it completely, or that the original install of that piece of software failed for an unknown reason and trying again with a fresh install can allow a successful installation that works appropriately in the future.

Unfortunately there is a downside to having system restore turned on as well. There are times when certain viruses may hide a file in a system restore point, that allows itself to self replicate-that is to reinstall itself any time it is removed from the system. However this is a minor consideration for most people compared to the convenience of having the system active, and is normally overcome by simply having good anti-virus software always running.

A system restore can only ever be successful when it is used correctly. If no restore points are set then there will be nothing to roll back to if something goes wrong, so it is important to set restore points regularly. A weekly restore point is useful, but the most important thing is to make sure that you always set a restore point before making any changes to the system. This includes before you install new software or new hardware drivers.

When system restore fails you may have no choice but to call in someone who is more familiar with computers, but this at least gives you a chance to fix things when they go wrong.

According to the designers, ‘The Emotiv EPOC is a high resolution, neuro-signal acquisition and processing wireless neuroheadset.  It uses a set of sensors to tune into electric signals produced by the brain to detect player thoughts, feelings and expressions and connects wirelessly to most PCs.’

To control spatial awareness there are 14 saline sensors while its gyroscope generates positional information for cursor and camera controls. Being wireless it needs no trailing wires that would otherwise hamper and restrict movement. Although health and safety guidelines recommend you don’t play computer games for long periods, the lithium battery will run for 12 hours.

The first games and applications will be available from the Emotiv App Store and should include fantasy titles, creative applications and life changing apps for wheelchair bound people who could now use this device to remotely control their wheelchair or even type on a virtual keyboard. Using neural feedback, market researchers could learn how a person feels when presented with a range of advertising materials put in front of them. This bit of strange head technology is certainly something to keep your eye on.

Ever since Richard Trevithick produced the first design of the steam locomotive way back in 1804 and George Stephenson unveiled his first working steam locomotive, the Blücher in 1814, advances of technology and ideas of how to improve the efficiency and design have progressed to the trains we see today.

Back in the 19th century when the industrial revolution in Great Britain was in its infancy the invention of the steam engine was primarily to help haul coal from mines and take it to be processed. 7. CHINA CRH2 HARMONY EXPRESS

High tech goes hand in hand with speed. Unlike the car market where marketing promoted vehicles that could pointlessly exceed 70mph; raising train speeds is a positive boon that is vital for a country’s economy. China now rules the world for having the fastest ever long distance passenger train service. The journey from Guangzhou to Wuhan used to take a minimum of 11 hours, now completed in an amazing 3 hours! An average speed of 220 mph is no mean feat and compare this with Amtrak’s Acela ‘Express’ service takes 3½ hours to trundle between Boston and New York, a distance of only 300km.

Arguably the most famous European high tech train is the French Train à Grand Vitesse (High Speed Train.) They make very little sound; with maglevs it’s just the noise of air resistance when it’s in motion. No rolling resistance means increased efficiency. The important speed range of over 100mph comes with significantly lower fuel consumption than the standard diesel motor. Previously I’ve extolled the express speeds of over 200mph; well with these you’ll need to buckle yourself in for speeds of over 300mph! Far too fast for me; I’ll stick with my trains to London!
